We are excited to welcome Professor Geneva Stein, Ph.D., as the new Master in Decision Analysis (MDA) Head Instructor.

Stein originally joined Minerva in 2018 from Princeton University where she completed her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Neuroscience before serving as the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Learning Programs. After publishing several peer-reviewed scientific articles in molecular biology, Stein pivoted her focus toward understanding and translating the science of learning into effective pedagogical practice. Stein’s most recent publication focused on students’ pandemic learning experience. She is passionate about helping students understand how to intentionally develop processes of critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication in their desired field. Stein considers Minerva’s fully active learning pedagogy and purposeful reflection as two necessary components in helping students thrive.

“Minerva puts pedagogy research into practice across their curriculum. I’m excited to be a part of a passionate faculty leading classes where all students can learn.”

At Minerva, Professor Stein has taught Advanced Empirical Analysis and Advanced Complex Systems in the MDA, as well as Empirical Analysis, Multimodal Communications, psychology, and senior-year tutorials in Minerva’s undergraduate program. Stein has also mentored two MDA students on their final thesis projects. As the Head Instructor for the MDA, she will oversee Minerva’s graduate academic programming and assist in the MDA admissions process.

“I look forward to welcoming the incoming MDA students in the Class of 2023 as they begin their journeys this fall. I hope to help all MDA students learn how to develop their academic, professional, and personal talents through rigorous pedagogy and a passionate learning community.”
